Do you create a vision for yourself or for your life and what you want? If not, I encourage you to try it! For me, having a vision or goal brings purpose to my life in beautiful ways. I am never a slave to it but find it always brings amazing self-discovery in the process. This self discovery allows me to grow, learn, keeps me energized, and hopefully makes me a better person for those around me.
It can be easy to lose sight of things. Have you ever gotten so busy doing something for so long that you forgot why you were doing it or maybe you just haven’t thought about it in while? Have you ever started out with a goal in mind that was such a long-term goal, and it feels like it is taking so long to accomplish, that the reason why you’re doing it becomes a distant memory? I have had this happen to me. I have also become a victim one too many times of letting my reason for doing something accidentally become forgotten because of focusing too much on the goal itself instead of why I was doing it! If this is you, this is your gentle reminder to get reacquainted with your vision and why you wanted it or needed to do it in the first place! It’s like the dreaded “New Year’s Resolution”. The resolutions are easy to come up with but without a strong enough reason for doing it and sticking with it every day until it’s done, along with keeping it in the forefront of one’s mind, people are doomed to failure at the first sign of a trouble.

Your reason for needing to do something is the fuel in the tank that will keep driving you where you want to go, even when the road seems long, difficult or unknown.
Maybe it’s time to refill the tank!

Improving our lives, reaching a goal, just basically doing anything with purpose (whether it’s short term or long term) needs a reason behind it. It can be a practical reason like, “I need to lose weight” or “I need to be more organized or efficient with my time”. It can be a lofty goal like, “I want to be a better wife/husband or son/daughter”, etc… Maybe you are working on fitness, improving a skill, getting an education or working towards getting a promotion on your job. No matter what it is that you’re working on, there needs to be a vision behind it. See yourself doing it, becoming it and reaching it! Most of all, know and KEEP that reason why you’re doing it alive!

This is why I love self-discovery so much! If I am not working on self growth and improving my life in some way, how can I get better and figure stuff out?
If you have continually gotten derailed somehow, figure out why! The answers may surprise you! Figure out if maybe it’s simply not an effective plan, maybe you need better tools or to hire some help or maybe it’s something deeply emotional that’s driving those decision.

Become aware of whatever the problem is and put your energy towards working on the solution. It is a great start to getting “unstuck” and get back on the road to where you want to go!
If you find you’ve been working at some thing for a really long time and you should’ve gotten there by now, find out what’s in your way and do something about it.
- Are you distracted by too many opinions of others?
- Are you distracted by doing too many things at one time?
- Is your method realistic and appropriate for what it is you’re trying to do?
Above everything else that may get in the way of accomplishing something, what makes me lose steam the fastest is when I forget the reason why I am doing it or I don’t keep that vision and reason as my passion and in the forefront of my mind daily.
I love the saying, “Hold the vision, Trust the process”. You have to hold your vision and reason for what it is that you want and make a plan and trust the process of what you have to go through, no matter how long it takes, because what you may learn along the way is more valuable than anything else you may gain in the end and prepare you for whatever is next.
